I am a former staunch Republican. I became old enough to vote in 1990 after spending much of my teenage years admiring Ronald Reagan. In addition, I closely Wyoming’s amazing congressional delegation – people like Alan Simpson, Dick Cheney, and Malcom Wallop. After graduating from high school, I was a member of the University of Wyoming College Republicans. When the first Gulf War started in early 1991, myself and a small group of friends started “Support the Troops” rallies. At one time, I was elected as a committee person for my voting precinct. I was an avid Rush Limbaugh listener.
During the Obama Adminstration, my confidence in the Republican Party and Washington D.C. in general was lost. I witnessed the inappropriate accusations, jokes and remarks made by conservatives about President Obama and his family. I grew tired of the dysfunction in Washington. The inability of the parties to work together and the repeated tax cuts and pandoring to those with wealth.
By the time the 2016 Presidential Eelction came, I was livid. I was unimpressed with the Republican candidates and livid with Washington D.C. However, also thought Hillary Clinton was the worst possible candidate and option the Democrats could nominate. I took immense pleasure in watching Donald Trump demean and tear apart Republican presidential candidates. I became only too happy to see an outsider win and take The White House.
However, after Trump won that 2016 election, reality set in. After a few years, it became obvious my support of Trump had been misguided. This was a deeply flawed man with a history of poor choices in every facet of life. Trump was not a good leader, mishandled the COVID outbreak and I saw nothing subsantial occur to “drain the swamp.” Trump had just became the new swamp.
In 2020, for the first time in my life, I supported a Democrat. I supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris four years later. Since 2019, I have watched my local MAGA crowd berate and attack school board members during COVID. I’ve watched them go after public and school libraries to have books banned. MAGA has attempted and partially succeeded to take over government at the city, county, state, and federal levels to push far-right leaning policies focusing on isolationism and the ramming of Christianity values down the throats of the rest of us.
I’m not a politician. I am not wealthy. I am an Indpendent left leaning centrist in the brightest red of states. There is little at my disposal to make some kind of change or to influence the future of this country and the direction we are headed in. However, I do have my voice and I have the courage and will to use it. I believe MAGA to be an incredible threat to this country and the freedoms we cherish. This country must move forward, not backwards.
Now in 2025, I feel Americans have done far too little to mobilize and fight back against Donald Trump and MAGA. Therefore, I am stepping up to share information to hold MAGA accountable and hopefully change the minds of MAGA leaning individuals who can be pulled out of this far-right facist-leaning cult. Please join me by using your own voice. Get involved, protest, talk to others and do anything you can to peacefully encourage change. American is better then we are currently demonstrating. I want to hand off a better country to my son. Not a nation that is slowly crumbling and losing freedoms.
